Who needs an Austrian authorised representative?
Distance sales to consumers, business-to-business supply and mixed channels do not lead to the same Austrian conclusion.

Built for non-resident businesses placing packaged products on the Austrian market.
§ 16b
A distance seller without an Austrian seat must appoint one authorised representative and cannot license itself.

Shipping cartons split into household and commercial packaging by binding ordinance shares, not by your sales channel.
15 March
One annual reporting date for the whole file, with records kept for at least seven years.
3 streams
Packaging, WEEE and batteries keep separate classifications, evidence and recurring duties.
Sources reviewed 18 August 2026: Austrian waste and packaging legislation · ministry and coordination-body guidance · published 2026 system tariff sheets · applicable EU regulations. Live sources are rechecked before an operational commitment.
Each service separates public guidance, working assumptions and decisions controlled by the ministry, the coordination body, a collection and recovery system or another third party.
Service — packaging EPR
Map the obligated entity, prepare the Austrian representative appointment, choose a collection and recovery system and maintain packaging evidence for sales into Austria.
View service →Service — representation
What the Austrian authorised representative for foreign distance sellers is, what the appointment requires, and how the quarter-end rule affects timing.
View service →Service — system participation
Six approved systems publish different tariffs. Compare them on your own material mix, contract on time and obtain the participant number.
View service →Service — allocation
Austria fixes the household and commercial split by ordinance across 47 product groups. A review applies it correctly to your packaging.
View service →Service — reporting
One annual date for the whole file, a reporting class set by the expected licence fee, and a seven-year retention duty.
View service →The scope check separates marketplace, own-shop, business end-user and Austrian reseller routes before drawing a conclusion.
Run the scope checkThe storefront does not decide the duty; the delivery country does. Marketplace operators must exclude sellers they cannot verify.
Two controlsThe same appointment duty applies with no platform prompt, and the participation contract is due within two months of first placing household packaging on the market.
Representative reviewThe duty is written around the absence of an Austrian establishment rather than the seller’s country of origin. Confirm the position for the entity.
Human reviewDistinguish this route from a direct sale to an end user. The Austrian buyer normally carries the duty when it imports for resale, subject to the contracts and flow.
Contract checkEach sales route is mapped separately before an application, mandate or filing decision.

What is never left implicit
For marketplace sellers
Shipping to Austrian addresses from a marketplace? Map the entity, streams and evidence before relying on an account field.
I sell on marketplaces →
For DTC and Shopify brands
Shipping direct to Austrian consumers? The appointment and the system contract are both required, and both have deadlines.
I run a DTC brand →
For electronics and battery sellers
Selling electronics or anything with a battery into Austria? Expect three files, not one.
I sell electronics →
For agencies and 3PL partners
Managing several sellers who ship into Austria? Use one method, one calendar and one evidence standard.
I manage a portfolio →Membership, registers, declarations and marketplace decisions are separate. Always match the document to the entity, product stream and sales route.
